WEEKLY BULLETIN
Message from the Headteacher
At Parents’ Forum this week, we had the opportunity to share the positive outcome of our recent OFSTED report.
We discussed the many strengths highlighted by inspectors and celebrated the achievements of our school community. While this is wonderful recognition of the hard work taking place across HHS, we are mindful that this is not a time to stand still. We will continue to strive to improve for the benefit of our students and the wider community. Working closely with parents to support our young people remains vital as we continue this journey and the parent forum is a significant part of that. Thank you to all who already attend the forums and we hope to see more parents at the next meeting on 16th June 5-6pm followed by the SEND Parent Forum 6-7pm.
As part of this continued improvement, we have designed a series of warm-up sessions prior to the GCSE exams for our year 11s to sign up to. Parents have been written to about these. Please encourage your child to attend and note that students are required to wear school uniform for these sessions.
As you are all aware, reading and literacy are extremely important to us here at Harrogate High School. The DEAR programme, organised by Mrs Rees, is a pivotal part of our learning strategy. It is imperative that students gain as much as possible from this initiative and, this week, our new Reading Ambassadors reviewed the current DEAR texts. Mrs Rees said how fantastic it was to hear students sharing their opinions, recommending favourites, and helping to shape a reading programme that reflects their interests and voices. Their thoughtful feedback will help us continue to promote a love of reading across the school.
This week, a group of Year 9 students visited the University of York as part of the Shine programme. Shine aims to raise awareness and understanding of higher education, while inspiring, motivating, and encouraging participants to realise their aspirations and achieve academic success. Students had a wonderful time exploring the campus and learning more about university life. Thank you to the University of York and to Mr Coleman for organising this invaluable experience for these students.
Below are some lovely studies of trees and landscapes by our Year 8 students.
Wishing you all a very pleasant weekend.
Mr Gill
