Curriculum Intent |
At HHS, our mathematics curriculum aims to develop confident, curious, and resilient learners who appreciate the beauty and power of mathematics. Through a carefully sequenced and interleaved curriculum, students revisit and connect concepts in increasingly complex ways, deepening understanding and promoting long-term retention. We strive to ensure that all students, regardless of starting point, experience success in mathematics. Those facing the greatest barriers to learning are supported through targeted interventions and adaptive teaching, while the most able are challenged to think deeply, reason precisely, and make rich mathematical connections. Our approach fosters a sense of joy and discovery, encouraging students to see mathematics as a creative and interconnected discipline. Ultimately, we prepare every learner for their next steps—whether that be further study of mathematics or the confident application of mathematical thinking in the wider world.

Links to CARES values |
Our approach is underpinned by the five pillars of our community:
Together, these values shape a curriculum that celebrates discovery, nurtures understanding, and prepares every learner for the mathematical demands of their next steps and future lives.

Links to British Values |
The study of mathematics at HHS actively promotes British Values by fostering respect, tolerance, and responsibility within a collaborative learning environment. Through problem-solving and reasoning, students learn to appreciate the value of evidence, logic, and fairness—reflecting the principles of democracy and the rule of law. Mathematical discussion encourages respectful debate and the consideration of diverse perspectives, supporting mutual respect and tolerance of different viewpoints. By working together and taking ownership of their learning, students develop individual liberty and responsibility, recognising that perseverance and integrity lead to success. In this way, mathematics not only builds analytical skills but also nurtures the values essential for life in modern Britain.
