Message from the Headteacher
Despite the snowy start to the week, we were determined to ensure the safety of the site and to get students back to school. Our site staff, Mr Fox, Mr Smith, and Mr White, worked tirelessly to ensure the premises were safe, and we are incredibly thankful for their hard work in overcoming the challenging conditions. This allowed us to continue our school activities and get back to learning as soon as it was safe to do so.
This challenging week didn’t stop the school from buzzing with activity. The Year 7 trip to see Beauty and the Beast at Harrogate Theatre went ahead as planned ( oh yes it did!). We extend our thanks to Mrs Hastings and all the staff who supported the trip, ensuring that our students had a fun experience.
Additionally, we were thrilled to welcome back one of our esteemed alumni, Mike Bushell, the sports presenter for BBC Breakfast. Mike returned to HHS to speak with staff and students as part of a special feature for the BBC Breakfast show. The segment focused on the highly anticipated Third Round FA Cup clash between Harrogate Town and Leeds United at Elland Road, and it was aired this morning. If you missed it, be sure to check out our social media posts for a look back at the feature.
Reflecting on his time at Harrogate High School, Mike commented on how the school has always fostered a sense of community. As Headteacher, I am immensely proud of this strong community spirit, which remains evident today, even as we navigate challenges like the recent bad weather. It’s moments like these, along with events such as the upcoming football match, that truly highlight the wonderful community we have at HHS.
Whether Harrogate Town or Leeds United emerges victorious on Saturday, I wish all of our students and their families a wonderful and safe weekend.
Let’s continue to celebrate our strong sense of community and the exciting moments that unite us all.
Mr Gill Head of Academy.
