Message from the Headteacher

As we come to the end of January, school life continues to be full of activity, learning, and positive experiences for our students.

This week, our school community came together to mark Holocaust Memorial Day through a series of assemblies.

Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz and has been observed in the United Kingdom since 2000. It is a day to remember the six million Jewish men, women, and children murdered during the Holocaust, along with the millions of others persecuted. Learning about the Holocaust is not only about understanding history; it helps young people to recognise prejudice, challenge discrimination, and appreciate the devastating consequences when hatred and intolerance are allowed to go unchallenged.

These assemblies provided students with time to pause, reflect, and engage with the importance of remembrance, while reinforcing the values of tolerance, respect, and standing up against prejudice, principles that remain as relevant today as ever.

Also this week, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (NYFRS) invited a group of our year 8 students to attend a week long series of workshops. The NYFRS course objective was to provide opportunities to help improve outcomes for young people in the local community by building resilience, self-confidence and effective relationships.

Students took part in activities such as practical drill ground scenarios to develop the learning outcomes of Personal Resilience, Healthy Relationships, Positive Wellbeing, Physical Health, Stronger Communities and Aspirations.

We are extremely grateful to the staff at NYFRS for their warm welcome and continued support in delivering such engaging session. As you will see from the photos, it looks as if they had a great experience!

Wishing you a positive weekend.
